Charissa Martinkauppi

Director

she/her

Charissa Martinkauppi is a Swedish/Finnish-British director and writer with both Sweden and the UK as her base. She creates playful, politically charged, actor-centred theatre, often combining the subtleties of Finnish melancholia with theatricality and absurd humour.

In her work, Charissa enjoys exploring the tragicomic aspects of human existence and often works in community theatre settings to bring stories from the margins to centre stage. She often draws inspiration from her triple nationality to explore identity and immigration as well as source and translate pieces for new audiences.
