Rosie Kat

Rosie Kat (she/her) is a theatre and opera director originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne, now based in Yorkshire.Her work focusses on analysing behaviour and power dynamics and expressing this through bold and highly physical performance.

Rosie trained at RWCMD, graduating with Distinction in MA Opera Directing, after studing BA Drama and English Literature at the University of Birmingham.

She founded Y Opera in 2018; highlights include Mascagni's Zanetto, Donizetti’s Rita, devised live art opera He do the police in different voices, and online Gilbert and Sullivan adaptation The Mikado Is Watching You.

Rosie's assisting work includes Cunning Little Vixen, Pearl Fishers and La rondine at Opera North, Don Giovanni at Welsh National Opera, Ruddigore at Opera Holland Park, Scoring A Century for British Youth Opera, assisting Keith Warner, as well as Amahl with Northern Opera Group.

Rosie is passionate about engaging with young people and communities. She was the Director of Leeds Youth Opera from 2020-2022, highlights include The Enchanted Pig and the world premiere of ARC23 by Attridge and Murphy, as well as co-created climate crisis opera Project Ultimatum. For the 2022 Tete a Tete festival, Rosie also directed new opera The Journey with the Citizens of the World Refugee Choir.
