My name is Edd Soper and I am an actor/director who trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on the BA Acting course. Whilst I have acted throughout my life, I discovered a love for directing, assistant directing and producing during my time at drama school.
I love theatre that retells classic tales using today's culture as a reference. A recent example of this was Dominic Hill's "Cyrano" which used so much of Glasgow's culture to fuel the telling of the story. Additionally, absurd and dark comedy are some of my favourite genres of theatre, which is why Lucy Prebble's "A Very Expensive Poison" is one of best pieces of theatre I've seen to date. It was outrageous, intelligently written and wickedly funny. However, I still left the theatre feeling utterly devastated for the Litvinenkos. Watching them deal with the trauma of the poisoning was heartbreaking.
I work as an FOH usher for the Young Vic and so have been able to see first hand the fantastic opportunities it gives to emerging artists. I love working there and it would be great to be part of this brilliant programme.
