Laura Baggaley
Theatre Director
Writer
Teacher
I'm a writer, theatre director, and teacher in adult education. I'm interested in how the arts can influence social change, particularly in the context of the climate and environmental emergencies. These crises stem from a failure of imagination; artists have a vital role to play. (she/her)
Credits
I have directed plays ranging from musicals, plays for children, and Shakespeare to new writing and devised work at numerous theatres, including Southwark Playhouse, the Open Air Theatre Regent’s Park, the King’s Head, the Arts Theatre Cambridge, and Jermyn Street Theatre. I've also directed large-scale outdoor community productions, and student productions at City Lit adult education college. When I was starting out, I worked as a staff director at the National Theatre and assistant director for Birmingham Rep and English Touring Theatre.
Training
I read English at Mansfield College, Oxford, and Text & Performance Studies at King’s College London & RADA (MA). I also did director training at the National Theatre Studio, including the Directors’ Programme and Katie Mitchell’s Directors’ Course.
