He/Him
Born and raised in South London, I have been working in theatre for over two decades.
As a director, accessibility and inclusion are at the core of what I do. I am a fluent British Sign Language user and all my work features Deaf and Hard of Hearing actors with BSL and creative captions fully integrated throughout.
I work closely with dancer and choreographer Chris Fonseca and dancer, actress and BSL consultant Raphaella Julien. In the summer of 2022, we created a BSL-integrated version of Stig of the Dump for Storyhouse in Chester. After that, we received a commission from the Soho Theatre to create a brand new piece of BSL-integrated hip-hop gig theatre based on Chris’ life story. The show is called Follow The Signs and was on in August 2022. This is now being developed for a longer run and UK tour. We are also developing this for Film and TV.
“In its most dramatic moments you will be hard pressed to find a show as moving as this one, with blazing performances across the board.”
The Guardian on Follow The Signs, Soho Theatre.
“The absolute stroke of genius in this production is the decision to have both Barney and Stig played by Deaf actors, and to include integrated sign language in the production. It’s such a brilliant idea that you have to wonder why nobody thought of it before.”
Good News Liverpool on Stig of the Dump, Storyhouse.
In January 2024, I set up Fuse Theatre CIC with Chris Fonseca as co-Artistic Director and Sian Weeding as Creative Director. Fuse is committed to improving access and inclusion within the theatre industry, with a particular focus on the Deaf and hard of hearing community. We will deliver high quality theatre whilst simultaneously offering theatre venues consultancy and running workshops to inspire the next generation of Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent talent.
Fuse is also currently developing a brand new play with The Bush Theatre.
