Deanna H. Choi (she/her) is a film composer and theatrical sound designer splitting her time between London and Toronto. Her background as a violinist and neuroscientist inform her approach to storytelling that is playful, imaginative, and highly collaborative. She composes original music for stage, screen, and installations, and her scores can be heard on Netflix, AppleTV, CBC Gem, while her theatrical work has been heard on stages across Canada, the US, and the UK including the Kennedy Center, Stratford Festival, and Mirvish Productions. Recent highlights include the espionage thriller series GRAY (starring Patricia Clarkson), the sci-fi comedy RELAX, I’M FROM THE FUTURE (starring Rhys Darby), conservation documentary LAST OF THE RIGHT WHALES (nominated for a Canadian Screen Award - Best Original Music), and ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD (starring Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd). She is equally at home in intimate black box studios pioneering new work and in 1000-seat houses showcasing dazzling spectacles. She has been featured in conversation twice in the journal Canadian Theatre Review, received the Pauline McGibbon Award for Theatrical Design, and teaches at the National Theatre School of Canada. Deanna has served on numerous artist residencies including at the Canadian Film Centre (Norman Jewison) Music Lab, Necessary Angel Theatre Company, and the Banff Centre. Deanna, along with her artistic partner Maddie Bautista, won 2 Dora Mavor Moore Awards (5 nominations) for creating and performing the cabaret show LOVE YOU WRONG TIME, which sold out its premiere run in Toronto in 2023 before embarking on a national tour.
