Emily Rodríguez

Theatre Director Playwright Actor Dialect Coach (Gen Am, Texas, New York, Gen Latin Am) Facilitator

My name is Emily Rodríguez (she/her), and I am a 21-year-old theatre artist from Los Angeles. I recently completed a master's in Theatre for Community and Education at Mountview. My dissertation examined the power of theatre for political transformation and how a trauma-informed approach can take shape as a rehearsal methodology. I currently serve as an acting instructor and dialect coach to industry represented youth.

In May of 2024, my original full-length play, This Good Island, was read to the public in Mountview's black box theatre. The play spans the 1920s-50 and depicts the events of Puerto Rico's independence movement and its ultimate defeat by the USA. Actors participating in the reading included the brilliant Ronke Adekoluejo, Ariana Pérez, and Cecilia Alfonso-Eaton.

I am interested in developing my directing, acting, and playwriting practice and am drawn to work that seeks to challenge the status quo.
