Lau Batty

I am a writer and director (she/her). I enjoy working with communities and young people. I make work that is political, emotive and about finding connection.
Themes i am currently interested in are intergenerational connections, indigenous knowledge systems, climate justice and connection to the land. I love involving dance and music in everything I make. Currently trying to find ways to incorporate Tuvaluan dance and oral tradition into my theatre practice.
I studied literature and focused predominantly on postcolonial critique with my dissertation exploring the poetry of Kamau Brathwaite and Derek Walcott. I grew up in Papua New Guinea, Namibia, Tristan Da Cuhna, the Solomon Islands, New Zealand and Cornwall which has shaped a lot of my outlook and the work I want to make.
