Phillippe Cato

Director Dramaturg Singer Songwriter Composer Facilitator

Phillippe (he/him) is a Zimbabwean born freelance director, dramaturg, singer songwriter, and composer. He is interested in creating and developing new work that explores socially relevant and representative stories, with a focus on global majority and queer voices.

Phillippe studied Music at the University of York. As a composer Phillippe explores jazz, classical and vocal ensemble compositions. The music he writes for his singer-songwriter project combines indie, soul, and jazz sounds with captivating lyrics.

Currently working freelance, Phillippe was previously Senior Literary Associate at Royal Court Theatre, Associate Director at Theatre Peckham, New Work Associate at Paines Plough where he read for and coordinated the first two years of The Women’s Prize for Playwriting, and interned at Sadler’s Wells in the Producing & Touring team.

In January 2023, Phillippe co-founded Telluric., with producer Wayne Glover-Stuart, a company with the mission to tell representative LGBTQIA+ stories and narratives from global perspectives via theatre productions.
