Phoebe Rowell John

Phoebe(she/her) is a London-based writer and director, who began theatre-making as part of Chickenshed’s Young Company, which developed her love of ensemble-driven, physical, and accessible theatre. She went on to direct a range of productions while studying History at university, and then completed an MA in Theatre Directing at Mountview.

She is interested in making work rooted in history, whether that's reimagining old plays, or writing new plays inspired by past events: this framing allows her to talk about our world today. There is also always a focus on gender in her work, and she is always looking to diversify the ways in which women are presented on stage.

She is currently developing new work for fringe venues in London. She is the Resident Assistant Director at London Youth Theatre for 2024. She also works as a freelance Casting Assistant for stage and screen.
