Bel Parker

Theatre Maker Theatre Director Performer

I'm Bel Parker. She/her.

I'm a theatre director and a performer, a linguist and an optimist. I live life at a fast pace, and I'm hungry for developing my creative practice across different mediums and different languages. My first love is theatre, and I am currently working as The Associate Director at The Big House theatre company, where we engage care leavers and other marginalised young people to make unique and high quality productions. The job and my experiences are wide-reaching and various, including script development, facilitation, design, marketing and direction, and I have been involved in most stages of realising a production. But it is the direction of a production - the drawing of disparate elements into an impactful whole, the mobilising and guiding the creative energy of a cast and team - that is the thing that I want to do.

I am someone who lives in the present and lights up in moments of change or innovation. Physical/sensual sensitivity/expression are crucial. This is reflected in both the life that I lead and the work that I make.
Clown, physical theatre, visual arts, dance, and cabaret all influence my work.

I nurture play and trust in all creative relationships, seeking space for curious, exciting, artistic collaboration.
