Theatre Director Drama Tutor & Teacher Community Theatre Facilitator Young People's Theatre Director & Facilitator Mask Acting Teacher

I am a Brazilian-born theatre practitioner residing in England since 1996, he/ him. I came
to London after receiving a grant from the Brazilian Ministry of Culture to train at the Ecole
Phillipe Gaulier in London. I was also the recipient of a fellowship bursary by the Japan Foundation that allowed me to study and train Kyogen and Noh in Japan. I founded the theatre company Dende Collective in 2000 (www.dendecollective.org) and have directed all its projects to date (devising, new writing, commissioned translations of Brazilian plays, site specific, street theatre, community projects, etc). I have been returning to direct British and European contemporary plays in Brazil since 2011 (Anthony Nielsen, Marius Von Mayenburg, Dennis Kelly and Caryl Churchill). I teach and direct in several H.E. organisations and drama schools in England and abroad (Brazil, Singapore, Korea and Japan). I have been a regular tutor and director at East 15 Physical Theatre and World Performance BA since 2007. I am a mask acting and making specialist. I was the Tramshed’s Progression Creative Producer running its artist development programme where I curated seasons of opportunities for emerging artists aged 16 to 25 yo for 2 years (2019-2021). I have also extensive experience facilitating and directing projects with young people, children and young people with special education needs, old people and community projects for Dende Collective and other organisations. I have a passion for comic books (especially those that are creator owned) and have been investigating how to adapt them to the theatre when I direct at drama schools and have devised work based on The Boys by Garth Ennis, Neonomicon by Alan Moore, Trillium and Sweet Tooth by Jeff Lemire and Barrier by Brian K. Vaughan and I hope to show this work professionally soon.
