Rebecca Helen Gordon (She/Her).
I am based in London and across Scotland. Having trained as an actor at LAMDA and The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, I now split my time between the two disciplines of acting and directing. I founded Stage Goons in 2021, a theatre company giving actors ‘a space to collaborate’ and I will make my directorial debut with Stage Goons in association with the National Theatre in March 2023.
This allows me to regularly build my methods of working for and working with. Doing this brings greater substance to my work. I aim to make a passionate workspace. I want my rehearsal rooms to have playfulness balanced with professionalism. A supportive environment that gives space for curiosity and big risks to be taken centred around ‘doing the work’. I want my cast to feel empowered and work with discipline. This involves working with respect, and being prepared. Rehearsals should be electric, and adapt to what comes into the room each day but ultimately be centred around solving the problems of the story we want to tell.
I am interested in contemporary writing, particularly new works and adaptations of classical works. I want to explore alternative approaches to theatre making, combining film with live theatre and using a combination of abstraction and realism to create an immersive experience. I want to make work that is educational in a non-traditional sense.
I admire the work of Lynsey Turner, Emily Burnes and Simon Godwin.
