Bethany Shilling

Writer Theatre Director

My pronouns are she/her/hers and I write and direct for theatre. My writing often focuses on the lesser-told stories of historical women or fictional characters, with the theme of mental health in everyday life being one I frequently explore. My directing often leans towards the minimal, as my aim is to frame a text in such a way that it can speak for itself. Adding a stylised movement sequence or a striking choice of symbolism can really allow words to shine. Whilst I love working from a text, I equally enjoy creating new work from the ground up through a collaborative devising process - anything that involves staging an abstract concept is particularly exciting to me!
