I am a costume designer based in London. I trained at Wimbledon College of Art where I achieved a first class degree and was also awarded the Ann Holloway Prize for Costume Design. Originally from the Peak District, I made my way down to London to study and have remained ever since.
Before undertaking my costume degree I seriously considered illustration, due to my love of characters and story telling and creating visual responses to text. However, this interest added with my curiosity of the theatre and performance came together to forge the path that took me down the costume route.
Creating three-dimensional characters from the: page, script, libretto that audiences can authentically believe in and get carried away is still what I love about what I do.
I am fascinated by all aspects of humanity and our never ceasing love for stories, whether that is in the form of a play, dance, opera or musical in a grand theatre or performed on the street. Even when not working on any particular project, I always have a sketchbook on my person ready to make a quick impression of any interesting characters I see in my everyday life, so I can store these glimpses of real people for future costume reference. I am therefore interested in all types of performance and story telling.
