Benjamin graduated with a BA (Hons) Drama (1st Class) from Liverpool Hope University, before completing the MA Professional Acting at Alra, London, in 2010. He then trained in Commedia dell’Arte with internationally acclaimed Fraternal Compagnia in Bologna, Italy, and has been Associate Artist with the company since 2011.
Credits as director / producer include: Romeo and Juliet (Hen & Chickens, London), The Tain (Milan, Italy and tour of Ireland), The Very Special Letter (Stendhal Festival of Arts), Shakespeare’s Women (CQAF, Lyric Theatre and National Tour), Saoirse the Sea Pirate (Belfast Children’s Festival), Women Troubles (CQAF), That Scottish Play! (Lyric Theatre and NI Tour) and I Am Maura (Lyric Theatre and NI Tour).
He has also worked as an Assistant Director on the Lyric Theatre’s New Playwright Programme (alongside Ronan Phelan and Caitriona McLaughlin), Midsummer Night’s Dream (Terra Nova) and Sweeney Todd (NI Opera).
Benjamin is the Artistic Director of Commedia of Errors Theatre Company, managing the company, its productions and its growing outreach programme Plays Aloud, a dementia / elderly specialist performance project. Plays Aloud is in its third year and tours twice annually to over 40 venues across Northern Ireland.
Benjamin recently won the John Fernald Award for an Emerging Director in the UK and Ireland.
