Laura Christy

Director

I am keenly interested in untold stories, and we are surrounded by them. Stories of a brilliant diverse population, stories that have been overlooked for too long. I want to bring these stories to a broad popular audience. Exciting narratives and a clear vision can reach out to wrench a mainstream audience into our theatre and get our city, our country, talking. This is not counter to attracting big audiences, it is essential. If theatre is going to survive and grow in a competitive media-rich landscape, then it needs to be new, be truthful, be honest.

I love to work closely with actors and writers, drilling down to the truth and building on the text. I harness the talent in the room and try to bring a focus, leading and shaping, but fully encouraging the firepower of every member of my team.

I support my teams to make bold, daring choices, always mindful of creating something that will land with the audience.

I believe that theatre has the power to make real and important change, in society and in peoples' lives.
