James Scotland - Barnes

Director

He/Him

I'm a freelance Director passionately intersecting classical and contemporary performance. I interrogate the relationship between actor and text, working towards physiological moments.

An actor classically trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, with a directing style imbued with the holistic practice of repertory theatre.

Most excited by research and development; I draw influences from Mary Overlie’s Six Viewpoints and Antonin Artaud's Theatre of Cruelty.

I established KHAOS in 2014, an artist-led international theatre company with Co-founders Roy Rodriguez and Sanja Gregorcic.

Recent projects include Club Culture, an interdisciplinary performance space for artists.

For the Young Vic:

Assistant Director, ‘SHE VENTURES AND HE WINS’ directed by Sasha Milavic Davies.

Dir, WOLF AND DOG (after la Fontaine) by Martin Crimp as part of Five Plays (Jerwood Assistant Director Programme).
